Joseph Pilates was passionate about breathing and posture, and these themes permeate his writings and teachings.

The Pilates Method is naturally poised to address and correct breathing through focus on breathing and whole body movement.

Learn about current research on breathing and movement, how to assess breathing and posture and the interplay between the two, and how to recognise and correct common breathing pattern disorders.

                                                                                                                                                

 

                

Objectives

 

·         Demonstrate knowledge of the anatomy of breathing

·         Understand the relationship between breathing and posture

·         Perform postural analysis, locate bony landmarks by sight and palpation, and identify specific features that influence breathing

·         Assess breathing, identify breathing pattern disorders, and correct breathing pattern disorders

·         Apply the Pilates method of exercise to integrate whole body movement and breathing

Prerequisites:    Pilates Mat or comprehensive training, personal training certification, physiotherapist

Duration: 7 hours

Pending PMA credits— the PMA is recognised by REPS for retrospective CPD points.

 

There will be a short written, multiple answer comprehension test towards the end of the course to ensure that key information from this course has been understood prior to leaving the workshop.
