Details
Joy qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1993 from the University of Teesside. Before co-founding Body2Fit Limited in 2007 she worked as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist within the NHS where she developed a reputation as being an expert clinician in the diagnosis, treatment and management of shoulder and spinal pathologies. She has lectured to physiotherapists and medical colleagues and has also contributed to several published research papers.
Joy completed a Masters Degree in Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy, is a member of the highly regarded Manipulative Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, a member of the McKenzie Institute of Physiotherapists and also the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. Her interest in analysis of movement patterns and dysfunctions and the development of specific rehabilitative exercise programs led her to train as a Pilates Instructor with the internationally recognised Pilates Foundation. Joy not only is the only Pilates Foundation teacher in North East England who has trained in both matwork and studio (equipment) but she is one of only a few practitioners in the country who can combine her skills and knowledge as a Physiotherapist and Pilates teacher resulting in creating a unique approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of movement dysfunction.
Joy is also a Level III CORE Bodyworker. This is a unique soft tissue approach which addresses the body’s fascial system. She has also undergone specific training in relation to the application of such techniques to those who have undergone surgical intervention following breast cancer. Joy is one of a few practitioners in the UK who is able to offer a Pilates programme designed to meet the specialist needs of breast cancer sufferers.
Joy is also a qualified Ballroom and Latin American Dance Instructor and heads the Dance Team at Body2Fit. It was Joy’s love of dance and fitness that originally prompted her to train as a physiotherapist. She promotes dance as a way of exercising whilst having fun.
