Directions – by public transport

On the Train

The nearest train station is Hanborough -  on the Paddington (London) to Worcester/Hereford Line and trains run hourly at peak times and 2 hourly in less popular times.  Unfortunately there is no bus service or taxi rank at Hanborough and so local taxi firms need to be contacted in advance to be waiting for you as your train arrives.

An alternative is to take the train to Oxford and then catch the S1 bus from just outside of the train station, this bus runs frequently to Witney town centre. When you leave the train station cross the road to and walk out towards the traffic lights and the small row of shops. There should be a Dominoes Pizza shop visible. The S1 bus stop to Witney is located outside the ‘Rainbow and Spoon’ boutique and the barbers shop. The bus stop sign is clearly marked with the buses that stop there.

Once on the bus, ask the driver to alert you when you are 'at the bottom of Oxford Hill' this is the closest stop to Balance Studios in Witney. Once you are off of the bus walk around the corner on to Bridge Street and in to the car park opposite the Old Court Hotel. You will see a sign for Balance Studios along with Pirate Fitness and the Yoga Room.

The bus journey should take approximately 30 minutes providing there is no traffic.

Oxford Tube

If you looking for a cheaper alternative to the train then the Oxford Tube is an easy alternative provided you can get to one of the stops in Centeral London. A next-day return can be bought for £17.00 (current price in June 2013) The Oxford Tube stops in the following areas:

  • Hillingdon
  • Sheperds Bush
  • Notting Hill Gate
  • Marble Arch
  • Victoria

The Oxford Tube takes approximately one hour and forty minutes to reach Oxford City Centre but the buses are large, comfortable and reliable. Once you reach Oxford you will be disembarking at Gloucester Green where you will need to walk the short distance to the S1 Bus Stop in the City Centre. Exit Gloucester Green either using the bus entrance or the passenger exit in to Gloucester Green Market Square. The proceed to walk around the corner until you see the bus stop outside of Pizza Hut. This is the bus stop for the S1. You will need to wave the bus down at this bus stop so please look out for the S1 bus.

Directions – by plane / secondary transport

The most convenient airport to fly into is Heathrow Airport. becauser there is a Shuttle bus directly to Witney or a train link to paddington Station which has regular trains to either Oxford or hanborough Stations.

However London Gatwick is a further 45 minutes drive time compared to heathrow -  but the Witney shuttle bus does still go there.    (See taxis- below for Witney Shuttle info).

Birmingham airport also works because there are regular trains from Birmingham to Oxford.

Whilst Luton Airport is a close airport it is not easy to get from Luton to Witney without taking a train from Luton into London - which is more time consuming than coming into London initially.

London Stansted is the furthest away of the London Airports and although there is a coach link with  Oxford the coach stops everywhere on the way and takes 4 hours to do so.  Not recommended

Once you arrive at either Hanborough or Oxford - see details above (How to get there by public transport) to plan the last few miles of your journey.
